Mahakavi Sri Neelakanta Dikshithar Foundation
The Foundation has been established with
a view to perpetuating the memory of the great Poet-Saint-Statesman
the Seventeenth Century who was Prime Minister to the great King Thirumalai
Naickan of Madurai.
Neelakanta Dikshithar is believed
to have experienced Saakshaathkaara of Goddess Meenakshi (a personal
encounter with the Goddess), and needs no introduction to scholars, students
and lovers of Sanskrit. He was undoubtedly one of the most notable figures
in the field of Sanskrit letters in the Seventeenth Century. "There
no branch of literature that he did not cultivate or address – Mahakavya,
drama, satire, devotional poetry
and champu, all came easily and trippingly
to his tongue." Unfortunately, little has been done to make known
world, the facts of his life and his manifold achievements.
The foundation's charter envisages
the following activities:
The Celebration of Mahakavi Neelakanta Dikshithar's Jayanthi & Aradhana (birth & death anniversaries)
in a suitable manner.
Bring out a definitive edition of all
his works already published and not available now and his unpublished
including translations wherever feasible.
Publish critical studies of his works,
already done by many scholars in the form of Doctoral Theses.
Arrange Endowment lectures regularly.
Construct a memorial building at Palamadai,
his last resting-place where all functions connected with his
Establish a library whose collection would
include all his works and other relevant material.
Saint Dikshithar's Samadhi (death)
anniversary (Aradhana) is celebrated in Palamadai every
year on Sukla
Paksha Ashtami (eight day of the brighter half of the lunar month) of Margazhi.
Veda Parayana is conducted for three days preceeding the Aradhana.
Setting up of a library in Palamadai.
